brings to the Church we are also provided with an opportunity to reflect on how we came ' Out of the darkness and into the light' during our mission week 2017 (27th-31st March)

Mission week was a week of great joy that saw our community grow together in faith and provided us with an opportunity to learn and serve together, living out our school mission. There were so many highlights of the week; the Animate led refelction sessions experienced by each year group, breakfast with God each morning in the dining room saw record numbers of staff and students attending to start our day together in prayer and reflection, leadership development sessions led by the animate team for our School Council and Chaplaincy team, training and commisioning of our new minisiters of Holy Communion, our community celebration and not to mention all the mission focused lessons you experienced each day, and our final Whole School Mass celebration.

A huge 'Thank you' needs to go to the Animate Team, Kirsty or Chaplain the RE Team and all your teachers who made the week so special. We will continue our theme when we celebrate our School Feast day in June.

{gallery-slideshow:Mission Week 2017}
http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/events/website-logo.jpgMon, 24 Apr 2017 08:38:01 GMTPublic Speaking Success!http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2017-03-04-public-speaking-successhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2017-03-04-public-speaking-success
It is with great delight that I can announce the Public Speaking teams' success in today's District Finals of the 'Youth Speaks' event. The boys in Senior competition are through to the Regional finals and Oliver won the best Chair individual award again. As always the competition in both parts of the event was fierce, including Grammar schools and upper 6th students in the Senior section.

The girls won the Intermediate competition and were awarded the Henshaw Challenge Shield. Spurred on by good luck messages on our social media sites and a raft of support at the stadium itself, the day was in no way a disappointment as 3 out of the 5 teams rose to victory. All 5 teams have worked tremendously hard to get to this stage and having all five year groups in the final is amazing.

We at St Peter's are immensely proud of the teams and those who have supported them. Domestic abuse impacts on children a numbers of ways. Children are at increased risk of physical injury during an incident, either by accident or because they attempt to intervene. Even when not directly injured, children are greatly distressed by witnessing the physical and emotional suffering of a parent.

Encompass has been created to address this situation. It is the implementation of key partnership working between the police and schools. The aim of sharing information with local schools is to allow ‘Key Adults’ the opportunity of engaging with the child and to provide access to support that allows them to remain in a safe but secure familiar environment.

Following the report of an incident of domestic abuse, by 9:10am on the next school day the school’s Key Adult will be informed that the child or young person has been involved in a domestic incident. This knowledge, given to schools through Operation Encompass, allows the provision of immediate early intervention through silent or overt support dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

The purpose and procedures in Operation Encompass have been shared with all parents and Governors, is detailed as part of the school’s Safeguarding Policy and published on our school website.

At St Peter’s Catholic High School our Key Adult is Mr I. If you are going 'trick or treating' please respect and consider others and follow these top tips to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time:

DON'T

Go alone - 'trick or treating' is more fun and safer if you go in a small group with friends and family.

Go into houses - stay on the doorstep where the responsible adult can see you.

Play pranks that may damage property - this could result in arrest and a criminal record.

Demand money or intimidate people - Halloween can be a night that some residents dread, so be respectful and polite.

Don't throw eggs or flour - it's classed as a criminal offence and you will be arrested!

DO

Look out for Treacle posters - These will let you know whether 'trick or treaters' are welcome at a house or aren't.

Take extra care crossing roads - more accidents happen to children in the dark.

Go with an adult - get a responsible adult to go with your group to help in case you have any problems.

Dress to be seen - wear light, reflective clothes or carry a lamp or torch so that drivers and your responsible adult can see you.

Respect people's rights - be polite, don't go out too late, ring or knock only once, and be prepared to take 'no' for an answer.

Halloween is quickly followed by Bonfire Night. Please make sure you enjoy yourself, but remain safe and attend organised firework displays

Fireworks Safety Advice

If you're planning on hosting a fireworks party "be safe, not sorry" and keep it free from accidents by following the Fireworks Code.

The Fireworks Code

Fireworks should not be sold to any person under the age of 18.

Ideally attend an organised display.

Buy fireworks marked BS 7114 or CE.

Keep fireworks in a closed metal box.

Follow the instructions on each firework.

Light them at arm's length using a taper.

Stand well back.

Never go back to a lit firework.

Never put fireworks in your pocket.

Keep a bucket of water nearby if you are setting off fireworks in your garden.

Never throw fireworks.

Keep pets indoors.

Alcohol and fireworks do not mix and may lead to injury.

Other Safety Tips

Buy fireworks from a reputable retailer.

Always supervise children around fireworks.

Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.

Never give sparklers to a child under the age of 5.

Prepare for the party in advance, and in daylight. On the night you will need a torch, a bucket of water, eye protection and gloves, a bucket of soft earth to put fireworks in and suitable supports and launchers if you're setting off Catherine wheels or rockets.

Leave the lighting of fireworks to responsible adults only.

Don't Break the Law!

It's illegal to let fireworks off between 23:00 and 07:00, except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (01:00).

It's illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess fireworks in a public place

THINK TWICE IF ANYONE OFFERS YOU BANGERS! They have been banned in the UK for over 10 years, so any foreign or English looking ones your offered have not been tested for safety and may well be fake! We cant say what they will do when let off so do yourself a favour and don’t take the risk.

Its also illegal to sell any foreign labelled fireworks, because you cant read the warnings, so cant check your using them safely!

Please report anyone selling illegal fireworks to Wigan Trading Standards on 01942 827476

Bonfire Safety Advice

Have a Safe Bonfire Night! My picture was taken with members of my form to illustrate what Christian faith is all about. To us, Christian faith is about caring, sharing and loving one another and that is why I have tried to incorporate this into my photo. As well as this I have photographed a tree from the school gardens for my background. This is to show that as you grow and develop your faith blossoms like the flowers on the tree."

Rebecca

"My photograph represents spirituality within our school. This is because eyes symbolise understanding and in our school we understand friendship, learning, serving and Christian faith. This is why they are key words in our mission statement.

Our mission statement structures our school lives helping people to choose the right path in life. The shield images represent our school community as one big team. It shows that we are one and stay together no matter what.

Within the shield image there are shaking hands which show equality at St Peter’s. There is also two people writing which shows we never give up and we are a hardworking school. The cross images on the right side represent our strong religious faith. The eye in the photograph is blue which represents God’s creations like the sea and sky."

Eve

"I chose lots of different flowers to represent how no two pupils are the same here at St Peter’s. Just like flowers, we all have different looks. Even though they might be the same type of flower, they all have different aspects, and that’s what makes them beautiful, just like our individuality is beautiful to God. The flowers also represent God’s creations, because he also created us.

I chose the centre photo to show how hope, peace, love and joy are all interlinked, just like God’s love for us and our love for him is interlinked. The message behind my image is simple- no matter your race, gender, hair colour; eye colour, problem, age or even intelligence, there will always be someone willing to help at st. Peter’s. Y11 prefects returned to school at 5.30pm and volunteered their time to help guide families around the school and make them feel welcome. Staff from every department set up entertaining activities in each classroom in order to interest each family and give them a taste of what life here at St Peter’s is like. Teachers were on hand over the course of the night to answer any questions the visitors may have had, and a speech given by Mr McGlown took place and informed the parents further of how their child will develop through attending our school. The evening was a great success, and our prefects and staff received numerous positive comments from parents praising our school and efforts to make the evening enjoyable for all.

R Hart (Y11)

{gallery-slideshow:Open Evening 2015}
http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/defaultlogo(5).jpgFri, 02 Oct 2015 13:19:24 GMTGCSE RESULTS 2015http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-08-20-gcse-results-2015-1http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-08-20-gcse-results-2015-1
Congratulations to all our pupils who have received their GCSE results today.

With 78% of pupils achieving 5 A* to C grades including English and Maths, we are immensely proud of each and every one of them and wish them the very best in their chosen future.
http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/gcse.jpgThu, 20 Aug 2015 11:41:59 GMTY11 Leavers DVDhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-08-20-y11-leavers-dvdhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-08-20-y11-leavers-dvd
Due to an unfortunate technical issue, the footage from the Year 11 Leavers Mass will not be included in the final DVD.
However, to compensate, all photographs and extra footage from the Leavers Dinner has been added instead.
http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/defaultlogo(5).jpgThu, 20 Aug 2015 07:51:44 GMTSafe 4 Summerhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-07-16-safe-4-summerhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-07-16-safe-4-summer
Stay safe this summer

{doc:150716074226-b528cbb567454d0eb66cb93e251a9f2a}

Summer activity timetable from Wigan Athletic Community Trust

{doc:150716075155-affe67237c4f4df9a2d3ebd9b014e396}
Download a copy here

For more information about staying safe this summer and activities provided, visit the Safe 4 Summer website at http://www.safe4summer.com
http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/safe4summer.jpgThu, 16 Jul 2015 07:40:44 GMTYellow School Bus - Pass Renewals and Applicationshttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-07-10-yellow-school-bus-pass-renewals-and-applicationshttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-07-10-yellow-school-bus-pass-renewals-and-applications
Click the image below for details

http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/schoolbus.jpgFri, 10 Jul 2015 13:42:00 GMTParentInfo - from CEOP and The Parent Zonehttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-07-10-parentinfo-from-ceop-and-the-parent-zonehttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-07-10-parentinfo-from-ceop-and-the-parent-zone
Welcome to ParentInfo - a new service provided by CEOP and The Parent Zone.

ParentInfo is a constantly updated collection of e-safety articles and information provided to us free of charge to display on our website.
We hope you'll find the information useful and enable to you to provide a continually safe online environment for your child.

You'll find it under Students & Parents > Parents (or click here). We were so pleased for her when we received a message telling us she had won a Gold medal in the competition - but then she didn't stop there! She also received a Silver and Bronze medal and gained the title of Best Song and Dance. Well done, Abbie!

Pretty Muddy

Saturday saw Emma Jayne, Ellie May and Amy - all Year 10 pupils - take part in the 5K Pretty Muddy Cancer Research Run in Sefton Park, Liverpool. As you can see, "pretty muddy" was quite an understatement but the girls went on to raise over £300 for Cancer Research. Well done!

Colour Run

It seems that, not only do our pupils like to run, they also like to get messy.
Also on Saturday, Kia and Alex in Y10 took part in the 5K Colour Run in Manchester raising money, getting messy and having lots of fun.

100-Mile Bike Ride

It's not just our pupils that get involved, our staff do their part, too, as Mr Santus and Mr Ashton proved when they completed a 100-mile bike ride over the weekend to raise money for Cancer Research. They rode from Deanery High School to Lancaster where they stayed overnight before the return journey on Sunday. They surpassed themselves by completing 103 miles and raised a lot of money for charity. Well done, sirs!

http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/sports.jpgMon, 06 Jul 2015 10:20:26 GMTY8 Rugby National Final - Can You Help?http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-06-15-y8-rugby-national-final-can-you-helphttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2015-06-15-y8-rugby-national-final-can-you-help
As many of you will be aware, our Year 8 rugby team have made it to the National Final and will face Ystlyfera from Wales. The two girls produced an outstanding Mad Hatters Tea Party theme which included an Around Wonderland sandwich with homemade pastry, a White Rabbit Surprise cupcake, A Blueberry Absolem cupcake and two Queen of Heart scones. This was all washed down with a cup of refreshing strawberry lemonade tea.

The girls did fantastically well and although they didn't win everyone had a great evening which ended with taste testing the delights afterwards. The competition is held in July in Bucharest, Romania and is the largest dance competition in the world. They will be performing 6 amazing dance routines to impress the judges and hopefully come out on top.

Abbiegail's dance school is fund raising because, as you can imagine, it will be an expensive trip but worth it in the end. They have a target of £10,000 so there is some way to go. We did this by holding a ‘Hunger Lunch’ in the drama theatre, many students and staff agreed to donate their usual lunch money for a simple sandwich. We raised awareness of the lunch through assemblies for all year groups and by visiting form rooms to encourage and raise awareness of this years ‘Come Dine With Me’ theme. We also designed and created many promotional posters which we placed all round school, these included thermometers for each year group to encourage and show success of each group.
We have already organised a party for the Senior Citizens of our community, everything is planned and ready to go, hopefully for early January, Watch this space!
We are currently organising our next campaign, which will raise awareness of the homeless and needy in our community. Our new campaign is called, ’Can 4 Christmas’, we are asking every member of our school community to bring at least one item of non-perishable food which we will donate to the Brick Centre nearer Christmas. Again we have worked together to create an assembly that will motivate and educate the students and staff of St Peters about the plight of those less fortunate than ourselves.
Through our work during the past few months we have gained many new skills and our aim is to continue to build on these. We feel we really have entered into the Christian ethos of St. Peters which is spoken in our evening prayer at the end of each day,
‘Thank you Lord for enabling us to show our faith and friendship through the serving community that is our school’

http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/cafod_logo(1).pngMon, 12 Jan 2015 10:33:44 GMTSchool Tripshttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2014-10-13-school-tripshttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2014-10-13-school-trips
We are delighted to announce that the following trips have been passed at our recent governors meeting and letters will be available over the coming weeks:

Year 7 – Paris Trip – July 2015

Year 8 – French immersion trip to Normandy – February 2015

Year 8 & 9 – Sports tour to Holland or Spain – October 2015 OR May 2016

Year 9 – Spanish Immersion trip to Murcia – June 2015

Year 9 & 10 – Ski trip to America – March 2016
http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/defaultlogo(4).jpgMon, 13 Oct 2014 13:20:36 GMTYear 11 Trip to Wish FMhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2014-09-10-year-11-trip-to-wish-fmhttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2014-09-10-year-11-trip-to-wish-fm
~~
On the morning of the 10th September, 12 pupils from Year 11 walked the short distance from St. Peter’s to Wish FM’s broadcasting building, known as The Lodge, to take part in a session tailored to creating the perfect advert to promote our Open Evening on Wednesday 1st October. We were greeted by Chris Milow, the DJ of the 2-7pm show, the Home Run, and were split into two groups. One group created a radio show and recorded it, whilst the other wrote and recorded an advert.

After we had completed our radio show and adverts, we were then shocked to be notified of the arrival of none other than Peter Andre. Amazingly we got to meet him. We had a chat; Peter told us that he would be appearing in Ant and Dec’s Takeaway on Tour in Liverpool that night, and then we had photos with him. Thanks to Mrs Corkill for providing us with this interesting opportunity to experience a day at a real radio station and to record the advert for our Open Evening, which has been heard daily on Wish FM ever since.
Lucy Hickey 11.6

http://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/images/news/Peter_Andre.jpgTue, 30 Sep 2014 13:33:25 GMTGCSE Results 2014 - Excellent Achievementshttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2014-08-21-gcse-results-2014-excellent-achievementshttp://saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk/news/latest/2014-08-21-gcse-results-2014-excellent-achievements
Congratulations to all of our students who have received exam results today.

Year 11 have achieved some excellent results with 80% achieving 5 A* - C or better including English and Maths.

We are very proud of all our students' achievements and wish them well for the future.
