Before the summer, Mr Ashton (Assistant Headteacher) was approached by Paul Carey, Chair of the St James' Parish Focus Group and parent of ex-pupils, with a special request. He invited our school to contribute to the 325th Anniversary of St James by designing two display banners to commemorate this important milestone. While we were honoured to be asked, we knew this project would be a significant undertaking for both staff and students. Following meetings and a visit to the church, the 'team' set off to work!
Thanks to the dedication and creativity of our incredible staff—Miss Gaskell, Mrs Smith, and Mrs Frodsham—along with the support of our Year 11 pupils, this vision became a reality. They have worked tirelessly to create banners that beautifully incorporate the key symbols of St James. These stunning designs are not only a testament to their hard work but also something we hope will be on display for the next 325 years!
We want to thank our staff for their time, energy, and talent in producing such amazing banners.
Mr Carey sent us pictures of the banners in place and a ceremony involving the Archbishop blessing them.
He said, "We’ve had a brass plaque made which we will put under the banners which tells people that The Archbishop dedicated the banners to the 325yr Anniversary of The Parish. The A4 explanation... will be displayed next to the plaque.
Before the blessing Fr Philip explained St Peter’s involvement in making the banners and pointed out the main aspects of the design.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of Fr Philip and The Parish Team for coordinating the idea we had, we’d like to thank the teachers for developing the idea and say thanks to the students for putting in the hard work to make such fantastic banners."
