We are excited to announce the launch of Pitch In—a major fundraising initiative inviting our entire community to unite behind an ambitious, important goal: replacing our ageing Astroturf pitch.
Our current surface has served us well, but it is now reaching the end of its lifespan. To ensure our students and the wider community continue to benefit from a safe, high-quality, versatile facility, we aim to raise at least £250,000. Reaching this amount will allow us to replace the existing surface and, importantly, will put us in a strong position to explore match-funding opportunities to upgrade to a surface suitable for competitive affiliated Football and Rugby League. This step will significantly broaden sporting participation and enable us to host fixtures that bring pride to St Peter’s.
To guide this work, we have formed a dedicated steering group made up of staff from across the school. As we begin this journey, we will initially be focusing on the following key areas:
- Pupil-led fundraising – empowering students to play an active and creative role in our efforts.
- Parent-led fundraising – encouraging families to support and organise activities within our community.
- Working with local community clubs – strengthening partnerships and exploring joint fundraising opportunities.
- Engagement with relevant governing bodies – ensuring our plans meet appropriate sporting standards and seeking any support they may offer.
- Liaising with local businesses regarding sponsorship opportunities – building relationships that may provide financial backing or other valuable contributions.
This is an exciting opportunity for us all to come together to provide a facility that our school—and the wider community—can be proud of for many years to come.
As we launch Pitch In, we are looking for individuals willing to give some of their time, or who have contacts we can explore, to help us raise the necessary funds. Any support, big or small, will make a meaningful difference. If you are able to help, please contact us via the following email: pitchin@saintpetershigh.wigan.sch.uk
Over the coming weeks, we will share more information about how you can get involved. For now, we warmly invite you to join us at the start of this ambitious and inspiring project.
Let’s Pitch In—and make it happen.
